Combining Education about FMLA with Leave Requests

Some employers offer different types of maternity/paternity leave (paid/not paid).  Many employees share that they need to take leave or PTO due to a caregiving responsibility. It would beneficial to be made aware of the Family Medical Leave Act eligibility at the point of these leave requests.  Additional education and support could help employees with various caregiving responsibilities be more informed of their rights. ... more »

Day Care

Community Member kudos icon + Community member

In order to increase the number of women in the construction field, we need assistance with day care hours of operation.  Many women are single mother's but when they must arrive at work by 5am, there are very few day care options.  Also, single mothers who are trying to improve the lives of their children and themselves, should not have assistance cut when they begin making money.

If you work for an employer(say as a security officer) they should not be able to contract with another companyat lesser pay and crappy benefits for your job and then require you to go to work for them to keep your job.Translation- if your employer pushes you on to a contractorthen that contractor should be required to keep the pay and benefits of the client that you were an employee at. If you do the same job for the... more »

Support for Under Served Schools and Job Training Programs

Develop and implement a process for local federal office closures that directs lightly used electronic equipment, office furniture, and unused supplies to under served and under funded school districts and job training centers.

When local offices close a lot of useful equipment and supplies are simply disposed of and not re- purposed. Further, as a result of the pandemic, the current physical federal footprint will... more »

Employment

As an Employer, I have had many Interviews with Unemployment Candidates and the biggest struggle is that they do not return for employment after we make a competitive offer. This has been the standard practice of these interviewees and it is quite frustrating because this is effecting all businesses.

My idea is that the Unemployment Office offer a better 'Check and Balance' on these people that remain unemployed because... more »

Federal workforce development programs need to better encourage a wholistic and equitable approach to serving underrepresented populations. While WIOA funded programs include measurements within funding categories, it lacks a gauge across categories. While an area or state may technically do well within a single WIOA title, it may do a poor job across the system and the respective federal entities only report on their... more »

SCA Wage Determination

The current SCA wage determinations for many metropolitan areas are significantly lower pay rates than the market and collective bargaining rates.  As competition becomes fierce and the labor pool diminishes, specifically, specialized trades, contractors tend to bid at the minimum SCA in order to boot the incumbent.  IGCE models are archaic and do not account for the significant inflation.  Best value contracts are being... more »

Fair Wage Complainant Protection

Home care workers need a safe and effective way to report wage theft and unfair wage practices. Due to the isolative nature of home care employment through third company employers, workers have no formal path to sharing their concerns with fellow workers or seeking relief in a way that protects them from employer retribution. DOL needs resources to support the states in following through with investigations and hold employers... more »

For agricultural laborers in Michigan, migrant advocates (state employees and non-profits) need help enforcing labor violations in a culturally competent manner with targeted investigations by migrant-savvy investigators who understand the techniques needed to procure information from workers:  information is not gathered from workers in a way that leads to enforcement activity. Historically, we have been discouraged... more »

Work and Life Competencies

As a human resources professional I have worked with diverse groups of people.  What I have learned is that there is a general need across all backgrounds to learn certain competencies that serve us well in our lives.  These are often learned on the go. I strongly believe that learning them at a much earlier age is more than useful. It is critical. My offer here. provide High School and post high school adults opportunity... more »

Actual checks and balances; North Dakota.

1.)

Equal educational opportunities for all Americans should not be an issue in 2021.

     * North Dakota still does not have a free K-12 public school option. There are paid options that are automatically exclusive.

     * Fargo North Dakota in 2021 is currently working to build a completely separate school for special needs children; under the pretense of keeping them safe. I have had quite a few interactions... more »
